In the wake of Storm Daniel, Libya has been left reeling from one of the deadliest natural disasters in recent history.

The floods struck with unprecedented force in September 2023, devastating entire communities. More than 12,500 lives were confirmed lost, while up to 20,000 people were feared dead as rescue efforts continued. Cities such as Derna were almost entirely submerged, with entire neighborhoods washed away when dams collapsed. Homes, hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure were destroyed, leaving tens of thousands without shelter.

The crisis was especially dire for children. Around 300,000 children were affected, facing not only the loss of family members but also the threat of waterborne diseases, malnutrition, and trauma from the disaster. Survivors were left with no clean drinking water, limited access to food, and little medical care, while families searched desperately for missing loved ones.

Our response focused on immediate lifesaving relief. With the help of supporters, we mobilized emergency aid to reach affected families, prioritising children, widows, and the most vulnerable. This included:

  • Emergency food parcels to sustain displaced families.

  • Clean water supplies and hygiene kits to reduce the risk of cholera and disease outbreaks.

  • Medical aid to support overwhelmed health facilities.

  • Psychosocial support for children who had lost everything.

The impact was tangible – £10,000 worth of aid. Thousands of families received urgent assistance at a time when hope was scarce. Our aid helped prevent further loss of life from hunger and disease, offered comfort to grieving families, and gave children a measure of safety and dignity amidst chaos. Every donation made a direct difference—transforming compassion into concrete relief for those who had nothing left.

In the shadow of Libya’s catastrophic floods, every act of kindness counted. By standing together, we showed survivors that they were not alone.

Whoever saves one life, it is as if he saved the whole of mankind.

Qur'an, 5:32
