Urgent Appeal: Humanitarian Crisis in Palestine Deepens
The Current Situation in Gaza
Gaza is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent history. Ongoing conflict, widespread destruction, and a complete blockade have left over two million people—half of them children—trapped in dire conditions.
There is no access to clean water, limited electricity, and an acute shortage of food, fuel, and medical supplies. Homes, schools, and hospitals have been destroyed. Thousands are living in overcrowded shelters with little hope for safety or recovery. The healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, and families are going days without adequate meals.
The situation is urgent and life-threatening. Immediate intervention is needed to save lives.
The situation in Gaza has been marked by ongoing conflict and humanitarian challenges. Here are some recent developments and figures:
- Conflict Escalation: Periodic escalations of violence between Palestinian factions and Israeli forces continue to occur, resulting in casualties and widespread destruction.
- Humanitarian Impact: The humanitarian situation remains dire, with significant shortages of essential supplies including food, water, electricity, and medical supplies. Access to healthcare and education is severely restricted.
- Displacement: The conflict has led to the displacement of thousands of Palestinians within Gaza, exacerbating overcrowding in shelters and worsening living conditions.
- Infrastructure Damage: Infrastructure, including homes, hospitals, schools, and water facilities, has been extensively damaged or destroyed during military operations, hampering recovery efforts.
- Casualties: The conflict has resulted in casualties among civilians, including children and women.
- International Response: The international community continues to call for a cessation of hostilities and supports humanitarian aid efforts to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.
For the most current and detailed information, it is recommended to refer to recent news sources or humanitarian reports from reputable organisations monitoring the situation in Gaza. However, some recent figures as of:
- Over 62,000+ martyrs have been reported, including 17,000+ children and women.
- More than 110,000 individuals are wounded, many critically.
- Thousands are still missing.
- 70% of those dead are women and children.
- 70% of homes in the Gaza Strip have suffered from bombing, making 342,000 completely uninhabitable.
- 1.9 million people—95% of Gaza’s population—have been forcibly displaced.
- Essential infrastructure like water, electricity, and sewage systems have suffered major damage.
- 88% of schools are no longer operational.
- 68% of cropland affected.
- 17 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are partially functional – approx. 50%
- 104 mosques have been severely damaged or destroyed.
- 80% of all commercial facilities have been severely damaged.
- At least 217 Palestinian, three Lebanese and two Israeli journalists have been killed in the ongoing conflict.
What Have As-Salaam Done So Far
Since October 2023, As-Salaam Foundation has been pivotal in addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Our response has been multifaceted, focusing on providing essential aid and emergency relief to the region. We have mobilised resources to support displaced families, with a particular emphasis on distributing life-saving supplies and medical care through mobile clinics and local partnerships and two deployments.
We have provided over £300,000 in aid, including:
- Emergency Relief: we have provided immediate and lifesaving assistance to conflict-affected populations, including food, water, shelter, and medical care. This includes 2.1 million meals provided through 180 tonnes of flour, thousands of litres of water each month through dedicated water tankers, bread distribution to hundreds and thousands of families and more, and clothing for children that need it most.
- Livelihood Support: we have implemented programs to help individuals and communities recover their livelihoods and economic stability.
- Access to Healthcare: We have established and supported healthcare facilities and mobile clinics to treat injuries, illnesses, and provided psychosocial support. Moreover, we have offered counselling and mental health support to individuals and communities dealing with trauma.
How You Can Help
We at the As-Salaam Foundation are actively engaged in the North and South of Gaza, delivering essential aid to those most affected by this devastating conflict. Your generous donation could save lives and bring a sliver of hope to a dire situation.
Right now, due to blockade of aid we are only able to deliver water and flour. These have been highly inflated in price but every drop counts! Whilst most Gazan families are making an effort to flee, we need to continue to provide them with basic necessities as such so we can ease their burden.
