Project Taraqqi Housing

Current Housing Need in Punjab

Pakistan overall faces a housing shortage of 10–12 million units, and Punjab — being the most populous province — has the largest share of this deficit. Every year, new demand outpaces supply due to population growth, urban migration, and family expansions. Rural Punjab, while having more land, still has severe housing inadequacies in terms of structure, safety, and sanitation.

Many rural homes are built from mud, unbaked bricks, bamboo, or thatch. They’re cheap but vulnerable to rain, flooding, and temperature extremes. Electricity access has improved, but piped water, sewage, and gas remain limited in many villages. Many families live on inherited land but lack formal title deeds, making it hard to get housing loans. With rising construction costs, the poor rely on self-built housing that may be unsafe. Floods (especially in southern Punjab), extreme heat, and occasional storms damage weak structures.

Why “Taraqqi Housing” Fits This Context

Taraqqi (progress) signals upgrading lives, not just building walls — it speaks to long-term uplift, safety, and dignity. The name resonates in both rural and urban Punjab, connecting with aspiration (better living) and practical need (stronger, safer homes). It can be positioned as a symbol of modern, resilient, and affordable housing that helps close the massive provincial housing gap.
