Empowering Families in Bangladesh with Rickshaws
A rickshaw is a two- or three-wheeled cart, usually pulled or pedalled by one person, used to transport goods or passengers for a fare. In Bangladesh, cycled rickshaws are more than just a means of transport — they are a source of livelihood. For families struggling in poverty, owning a rickshaw can mean the difference between instability and a steady income.
The average hourly wage in Bangladesh is just $1.41 USD (if work is even available). Many families cannot access reliable jobs or own the tools needed to earn a wage. Without assets like a rickshaw, families are often trapped in a cycle of dependency and hardship, with little chance of improving their living conditions.
With your generous support, As-Salaam Foundation was able to provide 50 needy families with their very own cycled rickshaw. This was not just a donation — it was an opportunity for independence and dignity.
How It Helps
-
Income Generation: Each rickshaw allows its owner to earn daily wages by transporting goods or passengers, creating a sustainable livelihood.
-
Family Stability: With regular income, parents can provide food, pay for healthcare, and send their children to school.
-
Dignity & Independence: Rather than relying on irregular charity or unstable jobs, families now have control over their own source of income.
The Impact
For 50 families, life has been transformed. Each rickshaw has become a stepping stone towards breaking free from the grip of poverty. Where once there was uncertainty, there is now hope, stability, and the possibility of building a brighter future.
This project demonstrates the power of simple, practical solutions. A single rickshaw is not just a vehicle — it is a vehicle for change.
