What is Happening in Gaza?
We are witnessing an unbearable human tragedy in Gaza. People are struggling for basic survival — facing hunger, lack of clean water, no reliable electricity, collapsing health services, and disrupted communications. Despite a ceasefire and international efforts to expand aid access, conditions remain devastating.
Human Cost
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health and UN reports:
-
Around 71,000 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023, including children, women, men, and the elderly.
-
Since the ceasefire in October 2025, ongoing violence has still resulted in over 460 additional deaths and more than 1,200 injuries.
These figures underscore that the crisis has not ended — hundreds of civilians continue to be killed and injured even during the ceasefire period.
Food Insecurity & Hunger
-
Around 1.6 million people — roughly 77 % of Gaza’s population — are facing high levels of acute food insecurity.
-
Among them are hundreds of thousands of children and pregnant or breastfeeding women at severe risk of acute malnutrition.
-
While famine was previously declared in parts of Gaza, recent UN assessments suggest famine conditions have been pushed back in some areas — but acute hunger and malnutrition remain at critically high levels.
These conditions mean families are often unable to get enough food, and children are especially vulnerable, with malnutrition weakening immunity and increasing the risk of disease and death.
Living Conditions
-
Millions remain displaced, living in makeshift tents and damaged shelters.
-
Shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure has been severely affected by conflict and bad weather.
-
Access to energy, healthcare, and communications is highly restricted or non-existent in much of the territory.
Everyday Reality
Families in Rafah and across Gaza are living day-to-day with uncertainty, hunger, and fear. There are ongoing reports of children dying from hypothermia and harsh living conditions during winter, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian threat.
How Have We Responded?
Our Aid Efforts So Far
We have already sent significant humanitarian support into the region through two major deployments and continued operations on the ground:
January 2024 Deployment (Cairo)
Our volunteers filled lorries with £64,792.88 worth of aid, including:
-
2,835 tins of baby formula
-
2,880 blankets
-
26,400 bottles of water (1.5 L)
-
120 hygiene kits
-
£5,500 in medical consumables
-
£5,500 in essential medicines
Due to severe food shortages, 1,200 food boxes worth £15,840 will be distributed on our next deployment.
March 2024 Deployment
We loaded £44,160 of supplies onto six trucks, including:
-
1,800 food packs
-
180 tonnes of flour (enough for approx. 2.1 million meals)
These items were successfully delivered into Gaza through Rafah.
Ongoing Operations
Our team continues to operate in northern Gaza, where the siege has been most intense. Although our local offices are no longer functional, we have:
-
Established agreements with wholesalers
-
Continued deliveries of essentials including food, water, hot meals, hygiene kits, clothing, and blankets
-
Transferred £85,000 of donated funds directly into relief efforts since October 2023
The Situation Isn’t Over
The humanitarian situation remains dire:
-
Millions still face life-threatening hunger and severe food insecurity.
-
Shelter and infrastructure are severely damaged or destroyed.
-
Healthcare systems are strained, with winter and ongoing violence worsening conditions.
This is a humanitarian crisis of catastrophic proportions.
