Why Donate Towards a Warmth Project?

You will already know, some countries are affected by adverse weather conditions and with climate change, this threatens lives. As winter grows colder the need for warm blankets and sleeping mats increases. There are many, communities we have yet to reach and receive our support. Though donations are important all year round, they’re of the greatest importance during winter. By implementing winter warmth projects we can ensure that we continue to maintain help and support to those most in need during these difficult times. Nobody should have to die from not keeping warm.

One of the biggest myths about the countries that we work with is that the temperatures stay warm all year round. In fact, winter climates in most of these countries match the UK winter temperatures, whilst some even drop below this. Despite this, the UK is equipped to deal with such coldness, whereas developing countries do not. Central heating, double glazing, and other insulation methods aren’t commonly installed in homes in these regions. Rather, homes are designed to expel heat due to hot summer climates. This results in illnesses such as hypothermia and pneumonia, which will often lead to mortality. Consequently, winter donations are more important than ever as they provide families with the means of keeping warm and avoiding death.

On top of the deathly temperatures, people in developing countries are often forced to live in cramped conditions, wherein contracting winter illnesses is inevitable. Common colds, influenza, and the coronavirus are typically fought off with relative ease in the UK; however, this isn’t the case in the communities that we work with. Their poor health means that their immune systems are weak, whilst limited medical facilities mean that they’re unable to receive inoculations and other treatments.

E3G

The UK alone experiences, on average, 32,000 deaths in each December to March period that are in excess of mortality rates across the rest of the year.

How You Can Make A Difference

Clothing Bundles

Donate Now

For many of us, winter is marked by gentle snowfall, roaring fires, fluffy blankets and warm clothes. Temperatures fall and roads become icy and wet, but we know that in our homes we are safe, warm and protected. However, for countless people around the world, winter is a battle for survival.

However, winter is a crisis they cannot flee. Without winter clothing, they cannot seek refuge from the sub-zero temperatures, snow and freezing rain. Warm clothing will make the world of difference.

A typical clothing bundle will include a scarf, coat, socks, a hat and a pair of gloves.

This winter will be one of the harshest winters many families have faced in decades, and it’s not just because the temperature is dropping. Families around the world, especially those who are living in refugee camps and in extreme poverty will struggle to protect themselves during these cold days and nights as the cost of living becomes more and more expensive. Around the world, the basic cost of supplies has gone up, which means more and more people are now finding it difficult to pay for the essentials.

The cost of food, firewood and gas has increased around the globe, these are essential supplies to keep families warm in the winter. As many communities around the world prepare for the freezing temperatures to kick in, we can assist them by providing good quality blankets, to help keep them warm and be the first line of defence against the bitter cold. Each blanket will provide families with an additional layer of warmth this winter.

Lots of happy children stood with their hot meals and a thank you sign as part of As-Salaam's warmth project.

The aim and mission of this project is to provide cooked hot meals to families and individuals who struggle to afford or prepare food for themselves as a result of financial instabilities, war, displacement and other reasons. We aim to help combat the rise in food poverty around the globe.

Our twofold initiative including our portable kitchens and delivery service, allows us to reach a wider range of beneficiaries and maximise our support for these communities.
