A Nation in Need

A catastrophic 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco in 2023, leaving a trail of death and devastation in its wake. Over 3,000 lives were tragically lost, and thousands were injured. The powerful tremor reduced homes to rubble, displacing entire families and leaving them vulnerable to the elements. Hunger and thirst was a major issue for the displaced survivors, and the urgent need for medical attention grew with each passing hour.

As-Salaam’s Response

Recognising the dire situation, As-Salaam Foundation’s UK team mobilised not one, but two seperate deployments to provide critical relief directly to those in the hardest-hit communities. With a focus on areas like the High Atlas mountains, our on-the-ground efforts aimed to ease the immediate suffering of those affected and offer a lifeline of hope.

The Impact

Through the unwavering support of our generous donors, we were able to make tangible progress toward alleviating the crisis:

  • Addressing Basic Needs: 729 food packs were distributed to combat the escalating hunger faced by families.
  • Ensuring Comfort and Warmth: 226 blankets and 100 mattresses were provided, offering warmth and comfort during harsh nights.
  • Promoting Health: 100 hygiene kits played a vital role in preventing the spread of disease in the aftermath of the disaster.

The Morocco 2023 Earthquake Emergency Appeal demonstrates the power of compassion and the unwavering spirit of the As-Salaam community. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we became a beacon of hope for countless people who lost everything. Your donations acted as essential life-saving resources for those who needed it the most.
